Tired of the same pirouette drills?

ALL our dancers can use practice and perfection in basic pirouette turns. One of the major factors in each turn combination depends on the speed and efficiency of getting into the turn position before the body rotates and the head spots. One of my favorite drills for this is simple. Have all athlete lay on the floor on their backs in a relaxed position- arms, legs, head placement falling in a natural position- think like corpse pose in yoga. And then on the end of a 5678 count Coach will clap her hands one time. Dancers must be in the pirouette position (laying on their backs) by the end of the clap. The catch is dancers cannot move until the start of the clap. So the exercise is completed in an instant. This works the brain and body’s fast-twitch muscle movement.
